Rayel first came to Manila last September 13, 2013 at TIME in Manila for "UNITED UNDER DANCE" by Trance Till Dawn. I was there and It was a night of just beautiful dance music. #SAVESEXY Lifeguards Gives Laboracay a Different Meaning

by: The Red Whistle

Laboracay for a Cause: HIV Advocacy Group The Red Whistle Organizes a Massive March in Boracay to Raise HIV Awareness

Manila: May 7, 2015 -- HIV organization The Red Whistle put a different spin to this year’s Labor Day weekend in Boracay, as they mobilized their team of volunteers who competed against each other to achieve one goal: educating the youth on HIV and AIDS.

From April 29 to May 1, the group assembled three teams, composed of six members each, as part of their first annual #SaveSexy Lifeguards Laboracay Race.

The teams, named Aware, Courage, and Protect, were deployed at Stations 1, 2, and 3 -- approaching beachgoers and raising awareness on how one can prevent HIV, and the importance of knowing one’s status through regular HIV testing.

Solenn Heusaff for #SaveSexy

Tom Rodriguez for #SaveSexy
Dominic Roque for #SaveSexy

“Our #SaveSexy campaign is all about teaching the youth to be conscious of their sexual health and HIV status, be confident about their bodies enough to protect it, and be comfortable discussing about sexual health,” says Evan Tan, Administrative Head of The Red Whistle. “With this campaign in mind, we developed the #SaveSexy Lifeguards Laboracay Race. We know that Boracay during Labor Day weekend is a great time to talk to young people about our campaign, since our message is very celebratory and positive -- something which we know won’t scare them off.”

The teams encouraged the young people who were educated to post about the campaign on social media through their Instagram accounts, using the hashtag #SaveSexy, plus the team’s assigned hashtags #SaveSexyAware, #SaveSexyProtect, and #SaveSexyCourage.

The team #SaveSexyAware, which got the most people to post their assigned hashtags on Instagram, won the race.

As the culminating activity of the race, about 300 people -- all of whom were tourists educated by the volunteers -- joined the march from Bombom Bar at Station 2 to Sur at Station 1, wearing their #SaveSexy t-shirts.

The event has also been promoted by celebrities such as Solenn Heussaff, Tom Rodriguez, Dominic Roque, Kaye Abad, and Derek Ramsay. As of this writing, the event has received 2.6 million impressions online, as reported by social media analytics platform Keyhole.com.

The race, supported by the UNAIDS and HIV advocacy group SHIP Foundation, was powered by location-based casual adventure mobile game application Cyburban. It was sponsored by Bench/ Body, 2GO Travel, Premiere Condoms, LG, Vita Coco,  Neutrogena, BLKSMTH, and KKK Coffee. Epic Boracay hosted the group’s after-party which flew in top international DJ Sander Van Doorn.

The #SaveSexy Lifeguards Laboracay Race precedes this year’s National HIV Testing Week, happening on May 11-15, and the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial, on May 17.

Lets Get to Know Soulfree_Custohm a Little Bit More

After a stressful busy day I'd browse through Soulfree_Custohm's instagram page and admire how beautifully each stones and charms are aligned together. Going through the profile, admiring every stone and bracelet designs while reading on their energy attributes and meanings. After a while I would feel the calm eventually would be easier for me to relax and eventually fall asleep.

Why? Maybe because of my fondness for these beautiful stones and the symbolism that they'd stand for that would take my mind away from my stressors. As I read most of these stones usually provide the wearer the "Calming" attribute. Also maybe these stones are associated with the “Well being” lifestyle.

So the always so nosey me is so curious to get to know the person behind Soulfree_Custohm and little bit of her laid back surfer/yogi lifestyle. The Hows and Whys behind all these. So I chatted with Camille to get to know her a little more. What got Camille into Surfing and Yoga, and eventually inspiring her to create Soulfree_Custohm and moving to Baler to start her life there.

Camille Santiago of Soulfree_Custohm
"Nearly 10 years back, what I thought was just a hobby and weekend getaway, surfing turned my life around. From weeknights in the city, partying, shopping etc... I replaced all that with weekends in the beach and turning nature into my big playground.

From surfing, I tried yoga as a work out compliment, and little did I know yoga slowly turned my world around. I found that my surfing and my yoga was more than a physical activity. It was my moving meditation, a mindful way of living. I was still mainly in the city, a weekend warrior for surf, and a yogi.

I put up Soulfree_Custohm two years back. Wearing semi precious stones is a good way to stay grounded . More so a good way to remind ourselves (those who are too busy with city living) that as we stay close to nature, we are reminded of how it is to be human.

It's a good way to remind ourselves to live mindfully and stay connected to the source, Mother Earth. It is a beauty that humans are part of this universe, often we forget with how we have proudly built our lives and progressed. But as we separate ourselves from nature, we lose our connection. Wearing Soulfree_Custohm is a good way to apply yoga in everything we do. To stay connected within, and stay connected with the universe.

Today, I've got no fear to leave behind the fast paced life I always knew of. Today, my green and quiet life allowed me to be who I am meant to be , living in baler."

I admire Camille that at her age she already knew what she wanted to do, and how her talents can contribute and make our world a better place to live in.I find her story so inspiring and that I wanted to dedicate a blog entry for her "Soulfree" story with the hope that others may also find inspiration the same way I did.

Charming Charmed Bracelets by Soulfree_Custohm

I'm really a sucker for beaded bracelets made of stringed up semi precious stones. My family and I had been fans for many years. (Segue: Sometimes I would find large blocks of clear quartz, rose quarts and others just hanging around the house).  These bracelets are popular choice among us Filipinos, male or female.

Some of us believe that these stones hold supernatural energies that may help us in our everyday lives. Like for example the ever famous Rose Quartz. A pink stone said to be the stone of the heart and promotes energy for unconditional love. For those who want to find the love of their lives or enhance love for a family member or friend.

We also have the Citrine stone, also it is also dubbed as the Merchant’s Stone. It is said that it helps the wearer acquire and maintain wealth. Another famous stone is the Tiger’s Eye which has brands of yellow and gold through it and is said to aid harmony and balance and also helps release anxiety. Some other famous stones are Lapiz Lazuli, Rutilated Quartz, Black Obsidian, Amethyst, Aquamarine and the list would just go on.

These bracelets may come in several shapes and sizes, may usually be accompanied by symbolic charms and other objects that some believe to have mystics meanings. Some people observe strict belief on what these beaded stone bracelets stand for and some treat them as fashion accessories. I see these bracelets as a little bit of both, but most of the time as reminder of my aspirations on my wrist.

So I recently got one, custom made by Soulfree_Custohm (instagram.com\soulfree_custohm) and I’m in love with it. I had Chrysocolla with Smokey Quartz, Citrine stone a Laughing Buddah Head and a Karma charm. Karma charm right? I have an explanation and I have a point I promise!

According to Soulfree:

Chrysocolla: Calms, cleanses and re-energises all the chakras. It draws out guilt, heals heartache and increases the capacity to love. Improves communication and opens psychic vision. Encourages self-awareness and inner balance. Imparts confidence and sensitivity. Chrysocolla enhances personal power and inspires creativity. Overcomes phobias by drawing out negativity and supplying motivation. Reduces mental tension. Promotes truth-telling and impartiality. Alleviates guilt and brings in joy.

Citrine: Energizes every level of life. It cleanses the chakras and opens the intuition. Citrine attracts wealth, prosperity and success. It imparts joy, wonder, delight and enthusiasm. Raises self-esteem and self-confidence. Stimulates the brain, strengthening the intellect. Citrine promotes motivation, activates creativity and encourages self-expression. Enhances concentration and revitalises the mind. It releases negative traits, depression, fears and phobias.

Smokey Quartz: Excellent grounding stone. It gently neutralises negative vibrations and is detoxifying on all levels, prompting elimination of the digestive system and protecting against radiation and electromagnetic smog. Smokey Quartz disperses fear, lifts depression and negativity. It brings emotional calmness, relieving stress and anxiety. Promotes positive thoughts and action, and alleviates suicidal tendencies. Dispels nightmares and manifests your dreams. Smokey Quartz aids concentration and assists in communication difficulties.

I also chose the Laughing Buddha head as one of the charms. Laughing Buddha is also known as Budai or Pu Tai in Chinese. We address to him in Fuk Yen as Mi Le Fu. My family had been followers of Budai for years, my parents had been praying to him ever since. And we have a big altar at home dedicated to Budai just beside my room, so we are really close. I’d always pray to him when I wake up in the morning, before going to sleep or when I feel really troubled. Budai or Pu-tai represents happiness, generosity and wealth, and he is a protector of children as well as of the poor and the weak.

The Laughing Buddha altar outside my room
And the Karma charm as a reminder that “How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours.”  These words spoken by American author Wayne W. Dyer. Soooo need I say more?

And here are some Soulfree_Custohm  bracelet and prayer beads designs that I really like. If I can Id order and wear all of them.
